For Shippers:

I can't stress the importance of making sure that your semen shipment arrives on the right day.  The female owner has done his part and done the progesterone testing, you are all set to deliver the semen on the day that she ovulates, it's up to you to deliver a shipment of vialble semen on the right day.

Getting the shipment there on the right day is imperative.  Spend some time geting to know the pickup times of your local UPS or FEDEX driver.  Know what time of day you have to have the shipment ready and available for pickup.  Know where your closest shipping hub is.  For weekend delivery, you might have to take the shipment directly to the hub.  This is also true for those cases when you get word at 6:00 PM telling you that your reciever needs to have semen well after your driver has finished the route.  
Preparation is the best defence to the unexpected....

For Recievers:

Make sure the you are available to recieve the shipment.  Remember that your shipper can not deliver to a post office box, so you need to have a viable shipping address.

Once you recieve the shipment.....DON"T OPEN IT UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO USE IT  The semen has been cooled so a specified temperature by design  of the shipping container.  A constant temperature is needed to make sure that the semen remains alive.  If you are having your vet do the insemination, take the female and the closed shipping box to the vet.
